As per the IRC RFC protocol upon connecting to the chat network the /motd raw command is send the MOTD file is loaded. This MOTD file holds important information. Some IRC clients skip it now, some browser applets don't list them either anymore. But, as per protocol, we have to assume everybody takes the time to read this important file. It holds the information to our TOS / Network Info / Network Rules. (All this information can also be found on this web site.)
